The year that was 2015
What an incredible year 2015 was full of many wedding highlights and the creation of many amazing memories.
My first full year of being a full time photographer from start to finish. I will be frank, I worked my butt off night and day for pretty much the whole year. I re-branded, I traveled, I fully committed to the cause of growing the business and doing my best week in and week out for each my clients. There were some consequences (sorry social life, sleep patterns and my trusty Toyota named Gramps) but entering 2016, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I road tripped to Victoria & Queensland (x2) for Weddings, as well as travelling to Fiji for my first overseas destination wedding. From beaches, backyards, machine sheds and beautiful venues right here in Sydney, 2015 had it all. I launched The Archive Lab which will grow whilst nurturing my (and others) love of film, preserving family history and memories for years to come. I also teamed up with my good mate Matt to launch Plus Minus Collective, an editing service for photographers which we will grow alongside our own businesses throughout 2016. I have a lot of passion for the various projects and ideas that I work on, becoming my own boss has been a facilitator (although I am told I need to make more time for myself!).
I started this post with over 500 images shortlisted (not surprising, I took over 200,000 photos and shot in excess of 100 rolls of film throughout 2015). I wish I could share it all, every wedding has a little bit of magic and it all comes down to the people. Wedding days are gigantic emotional balls of fun which create many magical moments. It allows the freedom to get creative, or keep it personal and relevant to the people involved. Some people love intimate candid affairs, whereas others love big parties and statements of love. Here are some of the photos that mean something to me, with a sprinkling of my own adventures in between for good measure.
A huge thank you to all my friends and family for accepting my necessary absence at times (or most of the time). I however cannot forget Rose; she is the one who eats my pre-prepped meals on her own on weekends. Waits up for me to come home from client meetings and deliveries multiple times every week. It was my pleasure to be able to take a little bit of time out and take a trip with her to Bali in December and to give her my undivided attention for two weeks straight (she’s probably now happy for me to go back to work).
And to my clients, well thank you for trusting me and having fun along the way. I wake up and pinch myself every single morning when I realize what I get to do each day. I appreciate each and everyone one of you and the friendships we have made.
