A Little Slice of Brunswick Heads
I originally wrote this blog post named ‘A Little Slice of Brunswick Heads’ back in 2012. It’s a great journal for me to revisit as it tells a story of the time. This was a period of time where there was lots of change happening in my family. I captured these photos with a film and digital camera and it was during the phase of me learning everything about photography. It is a great insight into a time where I captured photos with nostalgia, and is something I hope to recapture in my photography work.
As we approach Anzac Day (2012) next week it brings back many memories of a place I have been visiting my whole life, Brunswick Heads. Brunswick Heads is located around 20 minutes north of Byron Bay. It is a little seaside town with a laid back attitude and way of life. My Nanna & Pa made this place home in the mid 1980’s. I have been walking around Brunswick Heads ever since. Long instilled in my memory are days at the beach, the old shops, shop keepers, the river, fishing and many school holidays spent cruising around the town.
The beauty of a place such as Brunswick Heads is the slow evolution and change. I feel lucky that I am been able to go back and document this place as it is. In many ways it still exactly the way I remember it as a kid. I hope I remember Brunswick Heads this way forever. I have enjoyed the process of photographing this trip because I still can. Many other places that have had a big part in my life have changed so much. The time is gone, the place has changed and the opportunity missed.
I guess that can be said for many occasions before I picked up a camera. This year I am not up there for Easter, like I have been for many years of my life. I cant wait to get a few days free to make the journey again soon. I think it will be a place I visit for my entire life. I am hoping to document it in a different way each time and so that people can later look back at how it was. I hope that maybe that will still be the way it is.
