Pier One, Walsh Bay
Pier One Sydney Harbour is a hotel and wedding venue with an absolute waterfront position right under the Sydney Harbour Bridge in beautiful Walsh Bay. It is a heritage hotel, built within the structure of the old finger wharf which dates back to 1910.
The blending of the historic building with a modern upgrade really captures the essence of Sydney and the waterfront lifestyle that Australians love.
Pier One is the perfect venue in that it has multiple wedding reception options available for weddings of all sizes. My favourite space is Water @ Pier One, with the large glass windows giving you and your wedding guests amazing water views over towards Luna Park, and a rather magnificent view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Why I Recommend Pier One (As A Wedding Photographer)
A beautiful venue such as Pier One is always exciting to capture for us wedding photographers. I love a wedding venue that has some fantastic accommodation options onsite, as well as everything you need for the perfect wedding day. This is why I will always recommend a venue like Pier One for clients wanting to have everything in the one place.
The location really sells itself as one of the best spots to get married in Sydney. I love that Pier One has direct access to The Rocks, Observatory Hill, Sydney CBD and the historic Walsh Bay. There are some incredible photography locations within walking distance, or a short Uber ride away. I always enjoy exploring the local area and finding new places to shoot.
The wedding reception rooms are magical by night. As the mood inside balances with the lights of Sydney and the harbour it creates a wonderful atmosphere to celebrate with your family and friends in.
I have a close connection with the finger wharves of Sydney as my dad used to work on one! I spent my childhood years playing along the historic wharves and I love incorporating these beautiful structures into my photographs.
How To Get The Most Out Of Your Wedding Here
- Consider staying an extra night! When you book your wedding here you receive a night’s stay in the hotel (I can recommend the harbour view balcony suite). Why not add an extra night so you can sleep in and enjoy yourselves on day one as newlyweds.
- The best time of the day for wedding photography is as the sun starts to set. This is when the natural light is soft, golden and beautiful to work with. When considering the run of your wedding day, make sure you schedule some time for photos at sunset.
- Leave enough time for you to hit the dance floor! It’s too easy to get caught up in the formalities of a wedding but the real party starts once the lights are dimmed, the music gets loud and you can relax with everyone.
- The balcony area at Pier One is the perfect location for a sparkler exit! It is one of the best ways to farewell your family and friends and escape up to your bridal suite.
